Fall Fashion Thrift List
10 fashion essentials
to thrift this fall.
As I get older, I’m more aware of the negative impacts of fast fashion and endlessly buying clothing that goes out of style by next season. The fashion industry is one of the largest polluters of clean water globally. So how can we do better? Slow fashion is an approach to fashion that focuses on extending the life of each garment by purchasing timeless, high-quality items or giving used clothing a new life. For me, thrifting is an affordable option and a sustainable way to build wardrobe staples. See my list of top wardrobe staples to thrift this season.

1. Pleated Maxi Skirt
Beautiful, timeless, and easy to find at most thrift stores.
Maxi skirts have taken over Fall 2023 fashion week and now social media. This ankle-length hemline is blowing up and I can see why. Pleated maxis are incredibly comfortable and high fashion at the same time. Bonus, they are super easy to thrift.
2. Oversized Denim Jacket
Classic and effortless, try finding these in the men’s section.
A denim jacket has always been a wardrobe staple, but in 2023 it’s all about the oversized look. Updating any outfit is easy with an oversized denim jacket, giving you an effortless, fashion-forward.
3. Brown Suede Boots
Look for classic Western styles and shades of brown.
This cowboy core staple took off earlier this year at Coachella, and they are the perfect transitional item going into fall. Suede boots for women come in all shapes and colors, but for 2023, it’s all about brown or beige suede.
4. Denim Maxi Skirt
One of this season’s most popular trends. This skirt will be everywhere this fall.
Denim maxi skirts are one of the biggest trends for fall 2023. They transition seamlessly from summer and are an easy staple to dress up or down. Keep one of these in your wardrobe long-term as they are timeless and easy to wear for all ages.
5. Turtleneck Sweater
The perfect layering piece for colder days ahead.
Turtlenecks are super versatile and easily add sophistication to just about any look. Collect them in a variety of fits from second-skin to oversized so you have them on hand for layering this fall.
6. Sculptural Jewelry
Chunky metallic accessories with a sculptural shape.
The 80’s have come back in a big way this fall. Starting with the return of power dressing, and now sculptural jewelry. This jewelry style gives a modern twist to any outfit, plus it’s easy to thrift.
7. Lace-up Boots
Give your look an edge with lace-up or combat boots.
Lace-up boots have become popular again in recent years due to the resurgence of 90's grunge fashion. I love that these boots can tone down an outfit that’s too formal and add a little edge while still maintaining a sophisticated look.
8. Statement Sweater
Think oversized, in natural colors with lots of texture.
Fall is the perfect season for cozy textural sweaters. Brands such as Louis Vuitton and The Row showcased oversized knits during fashion week.
9. Vintage Glasses
Glasses are an easy way to upgrade your look.
It’s great to have a large variety of sunglasses on hand since they can really make or break a look. I’ve found some of my favorites of all time at thrift shops. Look for trending styles like cat-eye, rectangular frames, 70’s oversized, or even 90’s sporty sunglasses.
10. Leather Shoulder Bag
A timeless staple that will stand the test of time.
A classic shoulder bag made from high-quality leather is a timeless choice. If you find a vintage leather bag, you can easily restore it by gently washing it with a leather cleaner, followed by applying leather polish.
