A couple of years ago, I had the most beautiful blue ombre linen curtains from Anthropologie. I adored them! But when I sold my home, the buyers asked me to keep the window treatments, so I left them behind. And since then, I haven’t been able to find the same curtains. Most of what I have found are polyester or black-out curtains which I don’t care for. I’m somewhat particular about the fabric of my curtains and want them to have a natural look. For the last couple of years, I’ve been using Ikea’s Hannalill curtains and absolutely love them. They are 100% cotton and look natural, plus they are really affordable. Only $24.99 for a pair! So this spring when I was looking to add color to my room, I decided to dye the curtains I already have with this affordable fabric dye. See what you need below, followed by step-by-step instructions.
Supply List:
How to ombre dye curtains
Step 1: Make sure you have everything on the supply list.
Step 2: Fill 2 Buckets: One with dye according to the directions on your dye packaging, and the other with water.
Step 3: Place a rubber band around both curtains to ensure the ombre effect will be even across both curtain panels.
Step 4: Wet the curtains. This will soften the ombre effect.
Step 5: Dip the curtains in the dye bucket (up to a couple of inches below the rubber band. Do not submerge the rubber band) and quickly pull up. Dip the bottom several more times until you achieve your desired color.
Step 6: Dip the curtains back in the water bucket to remove excess dye, then hang the curtains to dry. Enjoy!
